Come and join us on this fantastic introduction to Outback travel, learn along the way and gain experience as we explore the best destinations Australia has to offer. This trip will take you from Perth to the Kennedy Range, in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia.

A full spectrum of outback conditions
If you've ever wanted to experience a variety of outback conditions in just one trip, then this is the right trip for you. Experience sandy river crossings, traverse rocky gullies, cruise through desert sand dunes and travel outback dirt roads on this exciting adventure! It starts from Carnarvon, approximately 900km north of Perth. The Kennedy Range can be found approximately 200km to the east of Carnarvon, in Western Australia's Gascoyne region. The range is spectacular, having been formed by the natural force of wind, water and the movement of the earth's crust over millions of years. Adventure Offroad Training and Hema Maps will take you on a journey through this region, and into areas seldom travelled by the average tourist. This outback adventure is a 4WD experience not to be missed — it is limited to just 8 customer vehicles to ensure an enjoyable experience for all, so make sure that you book early.
- Day 1
Perth to the Murchison
We travel from Perth approximately 580km north for an overnight stop in the Murchison region.
- Day 2
Crossing the Gascoyne River
We head north, refuelling at Gascoyne Junction before crossing the sandy 200m-wide Gascoyne River to start this exciting 4WD adventure. You'll travel through station tracks and visit soaks and springs along the way before setting up camp at a beautiful campsite under the river gums for the second evening.
- Day 3
Onto the top of the range
Traverse through numerous small, dry gullies and riverbeds before climbing up onto the top of the range. After driving through many kilometres of desert sand dune and spinifex country, you'll camp at one of the most scenic campsites you can imagine, looking out over the plain below.
- Days 4-6
Station history & Kennedy Range National Park
Descend the range back into station country to the east, where you'll explore historical remnants of the extremely harsh conditions of living and working in the region in the early 1900s. The next two evenings are spent at Kennedy Range National Park, where you'll have time to explore the many spectacular walk trails or simply enjoy the serenity. There will be plenty of photography opportunities on this trip.
- Days 7-8
Mt Augustus (Burringurrah)
We head to Mt Augustus (Burringurrah), the largest monolith in the world — 2.5 times the size of Uluru — where we set up camp for the next two evenings, giving you time to explore and learn about the history of this place.
- Day 9
The journey home
We break camp and start our journey home via the Murchison region again, before heading back to Perth on the final day.
- Vehicle Suitability
What your 4WD needs
You will require a minimum of a standard 4WD vehicle with low range. It is not suitable for soft roaders. The varied terrain is suitable for beginners as well as experienced 4WD drivers, and tuition will be provided if required. Light truck all-terrain tyres are preferable.
- Camper Trailers & Caravans
Bring your off-road setup
This trip is suitable for off-road camper trailers and small hybrid off-road caravans.
- Camping
Self-sufficient bush camping
We will be camping in a different location each evening. There are no facilities at our campsites, so you will need to be self-sufficient. Keep your camping equipment minimal and lightweight.
What you'll need
- Fully road worthy and insured 4WD
- 80 channel UHF radio (if hand held, bring batteries or a way to charge it — we can also hire you one if you wish)
- Camping gear: tents and swags, or an off-road camper trailer, camp chairs, and a tarp for protection in case it rains
- Gas stove and gas for cooking
- Food and water for all occupants for 5 days (5L water per person per day)
- Fridge
- 4WD recovery gear (compressor, deflator, MaxTrax or similar, shovel)
- Small first aid kit and fire extinguisher
- Suitable clothing (remember nights can get cool), hats, sunscreen, bathers & towel
- All tools and equipment to change a wheel if necessary
- Toilet tent and toilet (make sure you add toilet paper to your gear list)
- Insect repellent and fly net

- A different bush campsite each evening across ranges, river gums and national park
- Two evenings at Kennedy Range National Park with spectacular walk trails
- Two evenings camped at Mt Augustus (Burringurrah)
- No facilities at our campsites — come fully self-sufficient and travel light
